On Sept. 23, 2020, Industry City pulled its rezoning application just weeks before a City Council vote on it. The decision was the result of massive community organizing over several years in Sunset Park, and of political opposition by Council Member Carlos Menchaca and elected officials representing Sunset Park in the U.S. Congress and the NYS Assembly. The story, which we have been documenting for 4 years, shows the incredible work done by Sunset Park people, organizations, the Community Board and others. It also shows the need to reform the ULURP process to allow for comprehensive community planning.
Here’s a short film, Unpacking Industry City, I worked on with some other local filmmakers in Fall of 2918 to raise awareness about the rezoning.
